Britain's First Electric Highway
By the end of 2012, Britain's first national network of electric car charging points will have been implemented up and down the country at 27 Welcome Break motorway service stations. 12 of the service stations will have been completed by the end of September.
Electric cars will be able to top up in just 20 minutes using high-amperage charging points, or fully charge in two hours. For those making overnight stays at service stations, there are low-amperage points that will fully charge cars.
All of the electric car charging points will be fed by 100% green energy via wind and solar farms accross the UK, costing the consumer just 1p a mile, compared to 15.4p in a petrol car (12th Sept 2011).
